📰 News we're reading

• Program offering assistance to dementia caregivers expanding soon to Everett (everettpost.com) — Everett caregivers for loved ones with dementia will soon have a new respite option as Volunteers of America expands its Old Friends Club to the Carl Gipson Center. Starting Sept. 1, participants with early to mid-stage dementia can attend structured, social day sessions twice weekly, while families gain predictable time to rest or handle errands in town.

• Former autism center manager resigned over Providence program closure (heraldnet.com) — Families of young children with autism in Everett are losing a rare ‘bridging’ ABA therapy program at Providence’s Boyden Family Autism Center, and the center’s manager resigned in protest over how the decision was made. Providence leaders cite high costs and limited capacity, while staff argue the program fills a critical gap between short-term treatment and long-term care for dozens of local kids.

• Video: Wash. deputies rescue man suspected of setting home on fire (police1.com) — Snohomish County deputies rescued a man in crisis from his burning home and brought him to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett for evaluation and an involuntary mental health hold. Drone footage shows deputies pulling him through a window as the house burned, and investigators are still determining how the fire started. No one else was inside and no injuries were reported.
