• As Pierce County city mulls data center ban, where are the facilities allowed? (thenewstribune.com) — Local leaders in DuPont and Pierce County are rethinking where large data centers can be built, citing concerns about water, noise, heat, and energy use. While Fircrest isn't directly targeted, any new countywide rules on data centers and utilities could shape future development patterns that affect nearby communities, including where big tech infrastructure can and cannot go. 
• There's a big dead whale in the Port of Tacoma. Here's what we know (thenewstribune.com) — A large dead whale is decomposing in Commencement Bay near the Port of Tacoma, and state and federal wildlife officials are investigating how it died and what to do with the carcass. While the incident isn't in Fircrest, it's in nearby Tacoma waters that many locals visit, and regional environmental advocates say such a sighting in the bay is rare and concerning.
