• Gig Harbor High School athletic director removed after less than one month (thenewstribune.com) — Gig Harbor High School's athletic director position is suddenly vacant again after Erick Counts was removed from the role less than a month after starting, though he remains a part‑time social studies teacher. Peninsula School District officials have not explained the decision, which follows several years of turnover and controversy in Gig Harbor High's athletics department, leaving families watching closely as the district reopens hiring for the key job.
   

• Two In Tow & On The Go: Three more days of water slides (gigharbornow.org) — With Wild Waves Theme & Water Park just about 30 miles from Gig Harbor, local families have only three days left to enjoy the water park side before it closes for good on Labor Day, Sept. 7, 2026. The theme park will stay open on fall weekends for Booville and Fright Fest, even as Federal Way weighs a proposal to replace the longtime attraction with a massive warehouse project.
