1. Auburn man sentenced for Metro bus hate crime in Kent (kentreporter.com) — Kent residents are learning that a man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for a racially motivated stabbing and beating of a Black woman that began on a Metro bus and ended with his arrest by Kent Police. Federal officials and Kent’s police chief emphasized that hate-driven violence will be aggressively prosecuted and that restitution for the victim is still pending.
   

2. Kent, Renton celebrate new Martin Luther King Jr. street sign (kentreporter.com) — Drivers in Kent now pass a new Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Highway sign along Benson Road on SR 515, honoring his civil rights legacy. Local advocate Gwen Allen-Carston and Kent officials celebrated the installation and are already planning additional memorial signs at key intersections to keep King’s message visible throughout the Kent–Renton corridor.
   

3. Kent Police, Department of Corrections join annual Special Olympics Torch Run (ilovekent.net) — Kent residents may have spotted local police and Department of Corrections staff escorting the Special Olympics torch through city streets last week, continuing a long-running tradition. Officers, support staff and community partners ran, walked and biked to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes while highlighting Kent’s role in the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run.
   

4. Space Northwest teams up with Commercial Space Federation on business accelerator program (geekwire.com) — Kent is backing a new regional space business accelerator that will support up to 10 early-stage companies, building on the city’s growing role as a hub for firms like Blue Origin and Stoke Space. The 12-week program, starting this fall, aims to help startups attract investment, commercialize technology, and plug into the global space supply chain, with curriculum shaped by a national industry group.
