📰 News we're reading

• Large encampment garbage cleanups in Kent a regular task (kentreporter.com) — Kent is committing up to $175,000 in 2026 for on-call contractors to clear large garbage piles at encampments on city properties, especially in wooded areas and along McSorley Creek. City crews decide when sites are too big to handle alone, while people living in encampments are notified beforehand and offered services, which most decline, leaving the city to remove tons of debris.

• Kent woman, 23, injured in Highway 167 crash near South 208th Street (kentreporter.com) — A 23-year-old Kent woman was hospitalized in satisfactory condition after her BMW, reportedly speeding, rear-ended another car and crashed off southbound Highway 167 near South 208th Street in Kent late Sunday night. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, the other driver was uninjured, and the collision blocked the highway for more than two and a half hours.
