How To Get Free, Fresh Produce In Kirkland
Farmers in eastern Washington donated boxes of surplus produce, which residents can now pick up for a limited time on Tuesdays and Fridays.
KIRKLAND, WA — A surplus of unsold produce from eastern Washington farmers is being put to good use in communities throughout the state. Farmers across agricultural industries have struggled to sell their products amid the global coronavirus pandemic, leaving them with large amounts of food left over.
In Kirkland, donated boxes of produce are now available to all, while supplies last, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Residents can pick up the produce for free, on a first come first serve basis, in the west parking lot of the Peter Kirk Community Center, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
The distribution is made possible through a partnership with EastWest Food Rescue, and the produce is not meant for resale.
