Fake 'Crack Cocaine' Letter Being Circulated In Lakewood

Someone pretending to be Chief Mike Zaro is asking residents to stand up to a crack cocaine dealer named "Jeff."

LAKEWOOD, WA - Someone is circulating a phony letter around town about an alleged crack-cocaine dealer named "Jeff." The letter is signed by Lakewood Chief Mike Zaro, but the department put out a statement Monday saying that Zaro has nothing to do with the letter. The strange letter claims that Lakewood police are trying "a new approach" to getting "scum" out of the city.

"It has come to the city’s attention that a letter impersonating Lakewood Police Chief Mike Zaro was recently sent to some residents," the police department said in a release Monday. "The contents of the letter identify a specific house in the city as a drug house and encourage residents to take a stand against the activity.

"This letter is fraudulent. The city of Lakewood and Lakewood Police Department would never send a letter like this. If you have received this letter, please disregard and take no action based on its contents."

The letter points to a specific address of the alleged crack dealer, although police are not releasing that address.

"Recently it has come to our attention that the people who live in the home located at [redacted] have been selling crack cocaine. The main dealer is a man about 6' and goes by the name Jeff. In a new approach, the city of Lakewood would like to encourage all hardworking citizens to get involved in ridding our city of this scum. Please contact everyone you know in your area and feel free to take cell phone video if you spot the individual engaged in said activity," the letter reads.
