📰 News we're reading

• WA: Bus routes to and from Seattle are changing next month. Here's what to know (masstransitmag.com subscription) — Bus riders in Lakewood face major changes starting Aug. 29 as Sound Transit overhauls routes linking Lakewood Station with SeaTac Airport, Federal Way light rail, and downtown Seattle. Route 574 will run every 15 minutes but skip Lakewood Transit Center, while a new overnight Route 597 will connect Lakewood and Seattle when light rail is closed, alongside schedule tweaks on other Lakewood-serving express routes.

• Venezuelan man wrongly arrested by ICE released from Northwest Detention Center a month later (kiro7.com) — A Venezuelan asylum-seeker arrested by ICE in Lakewood in July has been released from the Northwest Detention Center and is back at work. His attorney says agents were actually looking for a different person but still sent him to Tacoma's detention facility. After a habeas corpus filing, he was freed, and his immigration case continues.

• Data centers banned in some of Pierce County for one year, council rules. Why? (thenewstribune.com) — Pierce County has temporarily banned new large data centers in unincorporated areas for one year while officials study impacts on power, water, air quality and jobs—an issue that could affect Lakewood-area infrastructure and resources. Council members split over using an emergency ordinance, and residents can weigh in at an October public hearing as cities like DuPont consider similar moves.
