Lakewood Asks Residents To Weigh In On New Fireworks Restrictions
The city is asking the public to voice their opinion on proposed firework restrictions as the City Council mulls them over.

LAKEWOOD, WA — Lakewood City Council wants to hear what the public has to say about a new set of fireworks restrictions.
Currently, the Lakewood only allows fireworks to be shot off between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 3 - 5 and on New Year's Eve. Under the new proposal, restrictions would be tightened so fireworks are only allowed on the 4th itself and New Year's Eve. If the council votes to approve the restrictions, they would to into effect starting next year.
But before they vote, they want to hear from the public by June 1.

The city council says the proposed restrictions were created after several citizens voiced concern that fireworks were being used unsafely around the holidays. The council believes the new recommendations could work as a good compromise: allowing revelers to still celebrate without banning fireworks outright, while also limiting the time they have to do so. Lakewood City Council also says the proposal would likely lessen the number of firework-related injuries or accidents, and be less of a nuisance for neighbors and pets that don't like loud noises.
