Power Restored In Large Outage Near Lakewood

A brief outage Thursday morning knocked out power to about 10,000 people, Tacoma Public Utilities reported.

LAKEWOOD, WA - A power outage affecting about 10,000 Tacoma Public Utilities customers has been resolved. At 7:30 Thursday morning, the utility reported that all customers had power after a broken transmission line was fixed. TPU first reported the outage around 7 a.m. Thursday.

WSDOT reported before 7:30 a.m. that signals were out at the intersection of SR 512 and I-5, which was causing traffic delays. Those delays should begin to clear.

"We have some outages this morning in Parkland, Lakewood, Franklin Pierce and South Tacoma areas. There us a fault with a transmission line - and it affects about 10,000 people. A crew is working to identify the problem and get it fixed as soon as possible. We will post more info when we have it," Tacoma Public Utilities wrote on Facebook when the outage was first reported.
