Sting Operation Takes Down Human Trafficking, Prostitution Ring

Local and state detectives targeted Pierce County truck stops, resulting in almost a dozen arrests.

PIERCE COUNTY, WA - State and local law enforcement arrested nearly a dozen people in connection with a human trafficking and prostitution ring. Dubbed "Operation Human Freight," undercover detectives set up at a truck stop in northern Pierce County, searching for both suspects and victims. Those arrested were charged with multiple crimes including soliciting prostitution and second-degree promoting prostitution, as well as closing existing warrants for drug and alcohol charges.

The operation was the result of numerous complaints from citizens to Washington State Patrol and Lakewood Police regarding prostitution at Pierce County truck stops.

"It's about ending the cycle of human trafficking," says WSP Chief John R. Batiste. "This operation not only helps protect the victims of human trafficking but also safeguards our communities from criminal activity."
