• Wilda Faye "Bug" Ward (leavenworthecho.com) — Longtime Leavenworth resident Wilda Faye “Bug” Ward, co-founder of Ward’s Funeral Chapel and a familiar face at Mountain Meadows Senior Living, has died at 87. Friends and neighbors can pay respects at a June 12 visitation in East Wenatchee and a June 13 funeral service and reception at Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene.

• No chinook fishing season on Icicle amid water woes, low returns (ncwlife.com) — If you were hoping to fish spring chinook on the Icicle River near Leavenworth, the season has been canceled after low returns and a major water line failure at the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery. State and federal managers say most fish have already passed the usual fishing area, and they’re scrambling with repairs and temporary pumps to protect broodstock for future runs.
