2 Mercer Island Homes Damaged In Fire

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. Wednesday along 96th Ave Southeast.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - Two homes on the northeast side of the island were damaged in a fire Wednesday night, according to the fire department. The fire broke out around 6 p.m. along t he 4100 block of 96th Avenue Southeast, which is a short distance south of the Stroum Jewish Community Center.

When Mercer Island fire crews arrived, they attacked the fire from the outside and had it under control shortly. Fire units from Bellevue also responded to assist.

While the firefighters were working on the initial fire, the fire spread to a nearby home, but firefighters were able to get that under control quickly.

Neither home was occupied, and the home that first caught fire sustained "moderate" damage from fire, smoke, and water, according to Mercer Island fire Lt. Steve McCoy.
