Big House Fire On Mercer Island Draws Dozens Of Firefighters
Forty-two firefighters battled a house fire on Mercer Island Thursday.
MERCER ISLAND, WA - Firefighters from four local fire departments traveled to Mercer Island Thursday to fight a house fire. The fire broke out at a home along the 8000 block of Avalon Drive just before 1:30 p.m. Thursday. No one w as home at the time, but the home was "significantly damaged."
An estimated 42 firefighters from Mercer Island, Kirkland, Bellevue, and Redmond responded to the fire. The firefighters attacked the fire from outside before entering the house to search for anyone inside. All said and done, the blaze wasn't fully out until around 5 p.m., according to Mercer Island fire.
The home is located on the water on the southeast side of Mercer Island between the Mercer Island Beach Club and Clarke Lake Park.

The cause is still under investigation, but firefighters believe the fire started on the exterior of the house and moved up into the attic.
