Summer Lawn & Garden Tips

Here are some tips for summer lawn and garden care in our area to help you maintain a thriving yard throughout the year.

  1. Let the grass go dormant during July and part of August - don't walk on it or mow it. You will likely need to mow only once every two or three weeks in hot and dry periods (let it grow to about three inches. In cooler and moister periods, mow as necessary to keep grass from getting more than three inches tall. Many local experts recommend not watering during the summer to give the lawn a rest, if you don't mind it turning brown. The return of the rains will make it grow again and green up.

  2. If you want a green lawn year-round you might want to plant a grass variety better able to survive drought conditions. Buffalo grass is one to consider.
