• Two with Life-Threatening Injuries Pulled from WA Apartment Fire (fireengineering.com) — A serious apartment fire in Sammamish left two people with life-threatening injuries and displaced residents from six units, drawing nearly 30 fire crews. Eastside Fire & Rescue, which also serves North Bend, helped contain the blaze to one unit and is still assessing damage and investigating the cause. 
• Income tax foes will pursue repeal on fall ballot (newsfromthestates.com) — A North Bend resident, Chantell Mellott, has filed a statewide initiative to repeal Washington’s new income tax on earnings over $1 million, aiming for the November ballot. Backed by conservative group Let’s Go Washington, the measure would ban future income taxes while preserving certain tax credits and sales tax breaks, setting up a major tax-policy fight this fall.
