• Highway 20 speed limit reduced south of Oak Harbor (whidbeynewstimes.com) — Drivers in and around Oak Harbor will see permanent speed limit reductions on Highway 20 this week, from Penn Cove through the city’s south end. New WSDOT signs will lower speeds to 45, 35 and 30 mph along key stretches, following city and county reviews and many resident complaints about earlier countywide speed changes. 
• Firewise workdays help Whidbey neighborhoods reduce wildfire risk (whidbeynewstimes.com) — Oak Harbor neighborhoods joined Coupeville and Langley communities in recent Firewise workdays that cleared brush, chipped wood and opened access routes to reduce wildfire risk. With DNR crews doing the heavy lifting, residents say the help eases anxiety about fire danger and prepares both homeowners and firefighters for a potentially intense season.
