Over five decades he helped shape landmarks from the waterfront pavilion to the senior center, inspiring city leaders to lower flags and consider annual "Billsbo" honors and even a statue in his memory.
   

2. Bremerton man found dead after shootout with law enforcement (seattletimes.com) — Poulsbo police helped evacuate nearby residents during an overnight standoff near Bremerton, where a 38-year-old man later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after exchanging fire with deputies. Multiple agencies, including Kitsap County Sheriff's Office and state wildlife officers, coordinated the response while negotiators tried unsuccessfully to get the man to surrender.
   

3. Stage One burn ban to be lifted in Kitsap Oct. 1 (kitsapdailynews.com) — Starting at 8 a.m. today, Kitsap County is lifting its Stage One outdoor burn ban, meaning Poulsbo residents can resume recreational fires and permitted outdoor burning under normal rules. Officials still urge caution, outlining pile-size limits, distance from structures, and the need for water and tools on hand, and direct locals to the Poulsbo Fire Department for permit questions.

LOCAL SPORTS: Roughriders Stun North Kitsap in Soccer Thriller, Move Into First-Place Tie (myclallamcounty.com) — Fans packed Viking Stadium in Poulsbo to watch Port Angeles edge North Kitsap 2-1 in a dramatic girls soccer match that tightened the Olympic League race. The game, broadcast on KONP, highlighted strong play from both sides and came alongside other regional results in volleyball, cross-country, tennis, and NWAC soccer that shape upcoming contests for Kitsap-area teams.
   

5. Best private high schools in Washington (ncwlife.com) — Poulsbo's West Sound Academy earns a spot among Washington's top 25 private high schools, ranked 25th with an A grade and small 13:1 student-teacher ratio.
