1 Dead, 1 Hospitalized In Shooting At South Hill Party

Gunfire erupted early Sunday morning at a party with more than 70 young people attending, the Pierce County Sheriff's Department said.

PUYALLUP, WA — One person is dead, and another injured, after a shooting at a house party early Sunday in the South Hill area, according to investigators. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said 911 calls started coming in shortly before 3 a.m., with neighbors near 123rd Street East and Meridian reporting a fight in the street followed by several gunshots. The callers said up to 70 partygoers were in attendance, and most appeared under 21.

On arrival, deputies found at least two people hit by the gunfire. Investigators said an 18-year-old died from their injuries at the hospital, and a second victim remains hospitalized. Detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Information on potential suspects was not immediately released. The person who died will be formally identified by the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office. Anyone who attended the party or has information about the shooting is asked to call detectives at 253-287-4455.
