1 Dead After Tuesday Morning Truck Crash

A man has passed away after crashing his truck in the Summit area, but deputies say the crash may not have been what killed him.

SUMMIT, WA — A man has died after a car crash in the Summit area early Tuesday morning.

Deputies with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department report that, just before 4 a.m., a witness called them to the crash in the 10300 block of Canyon Road East. The witness told them they had seen a white Chevrolet Silverado truck cross the road, and hit several mailboxes and a fence before stopping.

When first responders arrived, they found a 50-year-old man inside the truck in critical condition. He was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but passed away shortly afterwards.

Deputies say, based on early investigations, it appears the man had some sort of medical emergency that caused him to crash the truck. They say it appears he had been simply driving to work before the crash, and that there's been no indication of drugs or alcohol in the man's system.
