Outage In Puyallup Affects Nearly 6,000

The outage hit Puyallup around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

PUYALLUP, WA - A large power outage hit the downtown area on Wednesday, knocking out power to about 5,800 Puget Sound Energy customers, the utility reported.

The outage began just before 5 p.m. and was affecting people in a large swath of downtown from 21st Street Southeast to Canyon Road East, and from 84th Street East north to the SR 167.

The utility initially reported that power would be restored to all customers by 11 p.m., but by 7:30 p.m., all but 986 customers had their power back. Puget Sound Energy listed the cause of the outage as "bird or animal."

There was a similar incident on Tuesday afternoon, where a few hundred customers in the downtown area lost power.
