Hot Chicks Strut Down Fife Street: Photo Of The Week
A family of geese were recently seen on a local street. What did you think we meant?

FIFE, WA - This week's Patch photo of the week comes from Jodi Durrance of Fife. She snapped this little goose family strolling along 54th Avenue East back on May 5.
Spring is definitely a time for geese in the Puget Sound region. Some of the birds winter in the Puget Sound area, and some will return to Alaska and Canada during the summer. Other geese will stick around (and these are geese who likely winter farther south of our region) Puget Sound for the summer.
However, some wildlife officials in the region believe there are TOO many geese hanging around. Beginning in the 1990s, many local cities began rounding up and killing Canada geese to control the population. This was done in Seattle parks, and on the campus of the University of Washington, and in cities like Tacoma. The U.S. Department of Agriculture handles the killings.

On a happier waterfowl note, a group of firefighters and police in Sammamish recently banded together to save a group of ducklings who were trapped in a drain.
