• 'No substitute': Firefighters get hands-on, life-saving extrication training (dailydispatch.com) — Puyallup's specialized Extrication Team just wrapped a four-day, hands-on rescue training that drew firefighters from across Washington and even Alaska. Crews practiced cutting victims from crashed vehicles, including newer electric models, while Central Pierce veteran Jeff Pugh stressed that shaving seconds off extrication time can save local lives on our roads. 
• Motorcyclist who died in DUI crash identified by Pierce County Medical Examiner (thenewstribune.com) — A 63-year-old Tacoma motorcyclist has been identified as William Howell, who died after an allegedly intoxicated driver rear-ended him at a South Hill intersection Wednesday afternoon. Deputies say Howell was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene, and the other driver was hospitalized, then arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular homicide.
