📰 News we're reading

• How the staff at Good Samaritan, one of WA's busiest ERs, stays afloat (seattletimes.com) — Good Samaritan Hospital's emergency department in Puyallup is straining under heavy patient loads, even as nurses and techs innovate to keep care moving. Staff describe fast-track treatment areas, frequent hallway beds, and long, intense shifts as they serve a broad swath of Pierce County residents who increasingly rely on the city's only hospital for urgent and emergency care.

• CPR survivors take center stage at 2026 Washington Heart and Stroke Walk (heart.org) — A Puyallup cardiac arrest survivor, Kyra Smithlin, was honored at the Washington Heart and Stroke Walk after her family's quick CPR response helped save her life. The statewide events in Tacoma, Seattle and Spokane drew thousands, raised over $1.4 million, and spotlighted how bystander CPR can dramatically improve survival when someone collapses at home or in public.
