PUYALLUP, WA — Preliminary vote totals in the Aug. 6 Pierce County primary election are in, showing which candidates in races from Puyallup to Pacific to the Port of Tacoma are likely heading to the November general election.

As of Tuesday night, voter turnout was just above 15 percent, but the 2019 primary is the first year when Washington voters are allowed to register and vote on the same day, so turnout will likely continue to grow well after Election Day.

In Pierce County, voters in Puyallup, Bonney Lake, and Lakewood are making picks in important city council and school board races. Meanwhile, fire districts protecting Lakewood, University Place, and the Key Peninsula have property tax propositions on the ballot. There are also elections for Port of Tacoma and Peninsula Metropolitan Park Commission members.

The results below are preliminary. Pierce County will release new vote totals each afternoon and results in some races may change. The election will be certified on Aug. 20. Only the top two candidates in each contested race will advance to the November general election.
