A: International Understanding is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit
organization dedicated to bringing understanding between countries, one family at a time.
What are the requirements to be a host family?
To qualify as a host family you simply need to have 2 or more related individuals living in the home. English must be the primary language spoken in the home.

What are the responsibilities of a host family?
A host family makes the visiting student a member of the family, provides room & board and transports their student to and from the study center during the week.
(Carpooling with other families is often arranged.)
Q: Will we be paid for hosting a student?
A: No. This is a volunteer opportunity for your family.
Will we have to take our student on a lot of sightseeing activities or spend a lot of money?
No. Your student will enjoy many activities as part of his/her class time. Your student will have his/her own money for activities and shopping. Your time with your student is for family time.
Does a student have to have his/her own bedroom?
No. A student may share a room with a child who is at least three years old and of the same gender.
