In Redmond, community organizer Varisha Khan beat incumbent Hank Myers, taking the City Council Position 1 seat by 66 votes. Khan is just the second Muslim woman ever to be elected in Washington, following Zahra Roach, who won her race for Pasco City Council.
In Mercer Island, Dave Rosenbaum edged out Daniel Thompson to take the City Council Position 1 seat by a 40-vote margin. Rosenbaum replaces David Wisenteiner, who was elected in 2015.
