Become a Master Recycler Composter!

Join a team of volunteers to teach communities about reducing waste, recycling and composting. Info session in March, training begins April!

Did you know that Americans typically waste about 25 percent of the food they buy, at a cost of $1,600 each year? Or that more than 60 percent of what’s in our King County landfill could be recycled or composted?

If you’re passionate about reducing waste and want to inspire others, join a team of dedicated volunteers who are teaching their communities about curbside composting and recycling, and best practices for preventing edible food from going to waste.

Volunteers complete a training in early spring, then commit to 25 hours of volunteer service, empowering friends, neighbors and the public to reduce their waste. Our volunteers work in diverse environments including tabling at farmer’s markets and community festivals, providing outreach in their own communities to encourage behavior change, or helping their neighborhood school maintain a cafeteria waste sorting station. Most outreach occurs on weekends and many events will take place in south King County.

Ongoing Learning

As a King County MRC, you’ll receive mentoring and support from program managers at Seattle Tilth, and are invited to attend free ongoing learning opportunities like recycling facility field trips and composting workshops.
