Second Bicyclist Hit, Injured In Same Spot Along Rainier Avenue

The collision happened Monday morning near 84th Avenue South — the second there since June 8.

RENTON, WA — Firefighters from Renton and Skyway were on the scene Monday morning of a car vs. bicyclist collision along Rainier Avenue South. This is the second such collision there within the last month, and follows several other deadly incidents along this stretch over the last year.

According to Skyway firefighters, crews were on scene near 84th Avenue South, which is in the Bryn Mawr area between Renton and Seattle. The cyclist only sustained minor injuries, according to Skyway fire PIO Eric Autry.

The last collision near 84th and Rainier happened on June 8, according to Skyway fire. That cyclist was seriously injured.

In 2018, two other bicyclists died while riding along Rainier between Renton and Bryn Mawr.

Last July, Alex Hayden, 50, was hit and killed by a driver while riding in an unprotected bike lane.
In December, Taylor Marie Goehring, 23, was hit and seriously injured in Renton by an impaired driver with six DUI convictions. Goehring was taken off life support about two weeks after she was hit near the St. Vincent De Paul store west of the Renton Airport.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Rylski, 78, was hit and killed on Feb. 25 along Rainier Avenue South in Seattle, across the street from the Rainier Beach Safeway. Police later found the car used in Rylski's killing abandoned in Renton, but did not immediately arrest the driver.
