As human beings, we are born with an incredible capacity and desire to learn. At first, we learn from interactions with our parents and home environments. As we become children, we begin to learn in more structured environments, usually called schools. If our early development has gone well, we go to school “ready to learn.” We are able to sit and listen for increasing amounts of time, and to begin the complex tasks of learning to read, write, and do arithmetic.
Most of us have minor irregularities in our neurological systems, and we are able to compensate for these irregularities without too much difficulty. Some irregularities make learning more difficult. This talk is about ways that parents can support the neurodevelopment of their students, whether preschool, elementary or older, and to help them meet the challenges of school.
