• Renton city council delays camping ban vote (seattleweekly.com) — Renton's City Council has postponed a vote on making camping on city-owned property a misdemeanor, sending the proposal back to a committee for more work. Councilmembers are split over whether officers should be required or merely encouraged to offer services before enforcing the ban, with some warning the ordinance could just push unhoused residents into other communities without solving underlying issues.
   

• A Washington counselor assaulted a 7-year-old, slamming him into a wall. The school won't let him transfer (kgw.com) — A Renton mother says her 7-year-old son with special needs was slammed into a wall by a counselor at Renton Academy, and now the Renton School District is refusing to approve his transfer. The family has pulled him from school, lost income, and is considering a lawsuit while pressing the district for answers, accountability, and alternative placement as the new school year begins.
