Employees at Eastside Fire & Rescue (EF&R) will again be wearing pink shirts on Oct. 17 through Oct. 19 as they show support for National Breast Cancer Awareness this year. While the focus of raising awareness is primarily related to prevention measures and treatment methods of breast cancer, EF&R joins with the International Association of Firefighters and many other local and national groups in the fight against all cancers.
“No one is outside the reach of cancer. Whether personally afflicted or in support of friends, family, neighbors, or co-workers, most of us have experienced the impacts of cancer, and feel it a privilege to be associated with this worthy cause,” stated Fire Chief Lee Soptich.
The American Cancer Society reports breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States. Employees at EF&R hope this display of support will inspire cancer patients and encourage others to do what they can to help in the fight.
