Eastside Fire & Rescue Technical Rescue Drill

Eastside Fire & Rescue's  (EF&R) Technical
Rescue Team (TRT) conduct a three-day training session this week, on the Snoqualmie River.

Firefighters attending reviewed recognized standards of rescue, preplanning and incident management, and boat handling skills.   The focus this afternoon was on technical rope skills including knot tying and setting up rope systems, along with a patient water rescue scenario. 

The TRT trains and reviews tactics each year to better prepare for water operations.  Moving water and flooding
conditions can be a deadly combination and add to the danger and complexity of a swiftwater rescue.  

Throughout the year, EF&R responds to water rescues that involve flood water, water over the roadway, or boaters and swimmers not understanding the water conditions.  Training and preplanning is essential to the safety of the technicians and to the public we serve.

Today's drill also provided jounalists and photographers a better understanding of the techniques used and challenges faced during emergency situations.
