Seattle entrepreneurs look to make discovery of sports activities easier

Tenacity Sports, a Seattle-based startup cofounded by Seattle natives and University of Washington graduates, Jon Tam and Don Le, recently announced its development of a new website allowing users to discover sports activities, find pictures and information about them, and share them with friends. The name of the website will be Gametiime and will be launching in the coming months with its initial feature set at http://gametiime.com. The website will initially focus on participatory sports, including running and triathlon events.

"After doing our homework and speaking with many people from all walks of life (ranging from world-class Iron Man participants to soccer moms), we see a tremendous opportunity for something like this," said Jon Tam, Co-Founder and CEO of Tenacity Sports. "With sports participation at an all-time high, society’s renewed focus on the importance of health and fitness, and people looking for opportunities to get out from behind their computers, Gametiime will allow people to make well-informed decisions on which sports activities they want to participate in and more easily get others to join them."

To start, the site will feature an online directory of sports activities around the area in which visitors can participate. According to Tam, “We will present the information in a manner that is more visually-pleasing, relevant, and easy to use than anything else currently out there. As we progress, we will roll out features that provide more detailed information about the events you can do, keep record of your participation in them, and allow you to see what others are doing as well.

Online race directories currently exist, including national websites such as Running in the USA (http://runningintheusa.com) and Marathon Guide (http://marathonguide.com). However, Tam still believes there is room for innovation, saying, “There is a plethora of data out there via the Internet and offline sources, but it is very decentralized. We will present this information to our users in one place, so people don’t have to rely solely on posters and word-of-mouth. It will be simple but useful from day one, and the ease of sharing and socializing around the data will be a core tenet. We can’t wait to present our concept to the public.

According to Tam, a beta version of the website is slated to be launched before the end of the year. At which point, the company will look to garner valuable insight into how users are engaging with the site and validate user experience concepts with a select audience. While the endurance sports community will be its initial target market, Tam says, “We think there is tremendous potential for this product to extend well beyond running and triathlons, and into many other sports and levels of sports participation.
