Blood Drive At Sammamish City Hall Next Week
After donating, your volunteered whole blood is separated into three components (plasma, platelets, and red cells).

From Sammamish City Hall: On Thursday, August 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Sammamish City Hall Council Chamber, join Mayor Christie Malchow in the #BoldforBlood challenge to help end the emergency shortage of blood and platelets in our region.
Your whole blood donation appointment can be scheduled online, or by calling 1-800-398-7888. The #BoldforBlood challenge asks community members to donate blood by September 3. According to Bloodworks Northwest website, “The community blood supply in Western Washington and Oregon is hovering at one- to two-day emergency levels, meaning there isn’t enough locally-supplied blood for patients in need.” On August 16, King County Executive Dow Constantine, challenged 39 King County mayors to give blood as part of the #BoldforBlood challenge. City of Sammamish Mayor Christie Malchow promptly accepted the challenge,
“For me, participating in the #BoldforBlood challenge was an obvious yes,” said Mayor Christie Malchow. “It only takes a small amount of time to help save the life of someone in our region. I encourage all of my friends, neighbors and colleagues here in Sammamish to join me in giving whole blood on August 30, or to visit bloodworksnw.org to find a time to donate that works in your schedule.”

After donating, your volunteered whole blood is separated into three components (plasma, platelets, and red cells). These components are then transfused to a patient who may need either a combination of these components or a single component. This is how your donation can save up to three lives. Bloodworks donations are distributed to over 90 hospitals and clinics in the Pacific Northwest. Bloodworks is a nonprofit, volunteer based blood center, serving our community for over 75 years.
