Makers Among Us.....Snoqualmie Artist Katherine Hogan

Meet Katherine Hogan.

Kathy works in a studio which is sandwiched between the North Fork of the Snoqualmie River and the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. The weather is relentless at times. It is always beautiful in the way nature provides. The landscape, the raindrops clinging to bare branches, the towering fir and cedar trees, the colors ... all inspire her work.  She creates with wire and glass and her sculptures and jewelry occupy their space by playing off light and casting webs of shadows.

Kathy makes suspended wire sculptures and twists wire, beads and stones into works designed for the home or garden.   Her sculptures draw from the smooth curves and jagged peaks of the land and life. The works are abstract and meditative.  She also creates jewelry with a striking presence, pieces that are inspired by the colors in her flower gardens, the ocean and the forest.

As an artist, Kathy seeks to honor those who taught her things which she literally weaves into her work. “I learned the sculpture technique from the remarkable artist Ruth Asawa. My oldest daughter taught me how to make glass beads. My
mother taught me to crochet”.  Her own voice is unique but she celebrates the generosity of others who helped her find that voice.
