✘Revel in an afternoon with Master Chorus Eastside as they present smooth, jazzy, romantic, unforgettable tunes by top craftsmen of the ‘20s through the ‘50s in The Great American Songbook. Tap your toes to Harold Arlen’s That Old Black Magic and Get Happy and Duke Ellington’s Satin Doll and It Don’t Mean A Thing, bask in the glow of the Gershwin brother’s Love Walked In and Love is Here to Stay, and embrace the sentimental with As Time Goes By and Singin’ in the Rain. Guest artist Mary Jo DuGaw adds her own special voice in solo renditions of classic numbers of the period, and in combination with the Chorus. “These numbers have become a part of America’s art song tradition,” says conductor Dr. Linda Gingrich. “The poetry is sophisticated, the music is top quality, and they work together to tell a romantic story just as surely as European art songs do. They are wonderful expressions of our culture.”
