Issaquah Fundraiser Supports School Counseling

Teen panel addresses tough issues Including substance use & suicide.

SAMMAMISH-ISSAQUAH, WA - From Friends of Youth: Friends of Youth held its fifth annual Youth and Family Services Fundraising Breakfast on Wednesday in Issaquah. The program highlighted the need for counseling services for students in the Issaquah School District and included a panel of teens who spoke out about what’s going on in students’ lives.

The three students from Issaquah schools spoke to the audience about the increased pressures and
expectations for all students. They also addressed mental health issues and substance use, saying Friends of Youth helps make students aware of the risks but more is needed.

“Over the last four years the funds raised have allowed us to serve students with much-needed counseling
services at school,” said Friends of Youth CEO, Terry Pottmeyer. “Our vision is to be able to provide a
counselor in every school so students have the social and emotional support they need to thrive both in school and out.”

students face today and the importance of the counseling support Friends of Youth provides.

“We are grateful to the caring community members who make it possible for us to be there when a student needs our support,” Pottmeyer said. The YFS Breakfast raised more than $15,000 to support counseling services during the school day.
