Issaquah along with King County will pay about $11 million for the property, saving it from residential development. By preserving the Bergsma property as open space, the city will be able to build a trail between the Talus development and Tibbetts Valley Park, and expand Harvey Manning Park. Local residents have also expressed concern that residentialy development on the property would increase landslide risk. A developer had proposed building 57 homes on the land.
