Jacksons Fined For Denying Deaf Man Job In Sammamish
The store manager "balked" when he found out the potential employee was deaf, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

SAMMAMISH, WA - The Idaho-based Jacksons convenience store chain has been fined $88,000 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for allegedly denying a deaf man a job. On top of the fine, Jacksons will give the deaf man a job.
According to the commission, Nathaniel Pugh applied for a job at the Southeast 29th Street Jacksons online and was granted an in-person interview. But Pugh was allegedly met with resistance by the store manager.
"[O]nce he explained that he was deaf and would need an interpreter, the store manager balked and refused to give him that opportunity," the EEOC said in a press release.

In addition to the fine and giving Pugh a job, Jacksons will modify its Americans with Disabilities Act policy and alert employees about the Pugh settlement.
Jacksons operates over 200 convenience store-gas stations across the West.
