Kim Schrier Declared Winner In 8th District US House Race
Democrat Kim Schrier has secured a second term in Congress, representing Washington's 8th Congressional District.
ISSAQUAH, WA — Democrat Kim Schrier has won a second term in Congress, overcoming a challenge from Republican Jesse Jensen, the Associated Press projected Tuesday.
Schrier, an Issaquah pediatrician, was elected to her first term representing Washington's 8th District in 2018, flipping the seat blue for the first time in state history after Dave Reichert's retirement.
In 2020, Schrier faced a strong challenge from Jensen, a Bonney Lake resident and Army veteran. Schrier declared victory Saturday, and Jensen conceded the race Tuesday afternoon, acknowledging there were not enough outstanding ballots left to pull ahead.

"While I am disappointed to have not won the majority of the support from the voters in the 8th Congressional district, I am far from done with public service," Jensen wrote. "Until then, I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to the victor, Congresswoman Kim Schrier."

One week after Election Day, Schrier held onto her lead by more than three percentage points and about 15,000 votes. The Secretary of State's Office estimates fewer than 2,000 ballots are left to tally in King County.
