King County Opens Flood Damage Hotline

King County Emergency Management said residents and businesses affected by last week's floods may be eligible for financial assistance.

SEATTLE, WA — King County Emergency Management has launched a disaster assistance hotline for anyone whose homes or businesses were damaged during the recent rounds of severe weather. County officials said those who have suffered property damage or other losses since Jan. 20, 2020 may be eligible for financial help.

Starting Tuesday, damage reports can be submitted to emergency management online, or by phone at 1-800-523-5044, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (excluding Sundays and holidays).

According to the county, damage reports can only be submitted for uninsured losses. Everyone is encouraged to document all damage with photos and keep records of any associated cleanup and repair costs.

DAMAGE ASSESSMENT STEPS

Document the damage:
Identify and make a list of all the damage.
Take photos of the all property or items damaged.
Estimate the costs for repairs or replacement of belongings.

Call your insurance company:
Find your policy documents and contact your insurance provider.
Report damages and find out if anything is potentially covered.
If there are issues, you can contact the Washington State Insurance Commissioner's Office at 1-800-562-6900.

File your report online:
County officials said even if your damage is considered minor, you should still file a report. The information will help them complete a county-wide damage assessment.

Reports require a few details, including addresses, contact information, property value, and detailed descriptions of the damage.
