Magnitude 2.9 Earthquake Hits Near North Bend
The quake was detected around 3 p.m. Sunday just south of I-90 and North Bend.

NORTH BEND, WA - A relatively large earthquake was detected Sunday in the Cascades near North Bend. The magnitude 2.9 was detected around 3 p.m. south of I-90 close to Rattlesnake Lake, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. The quake was located about 12 miles underground.
Although the earthquake was likely too small to have been felt locally, the quake is among the largest that have happened recently around Puget Sound.
A remote area on the western edge of Mount Rainier National Park has seen more than five quakes since last Saturday all measuring above a magnitude 2. It's possible Sunday's quake near North Bend will be revised down, which is usually what happens after a seismologist reviews data on the quake.
