More Help Available For Small Businesses In King County

ISSAQUAH, WA — King County is making a second round of coronavirus relief grants available to a wider range of small businesses located outside of city borders. Under the expanded eligibility requirements, more businesses can qualify for grants that may have missed out in July. The second application window opened Friday, Aug. 21, and closes Friday, Sept. 4.

Once approved, businesses can receive grants of up to $5,000, which may be used as reimbursement for rent, utility payments and payroll.

According to the county, these grants were limited to unincorporated areas after a review of financial aid programs found help for small businesses was underrepresented outside major cities.

Updated round 2 eligibility requirements small businesses in unincorporated King County:

• Thirty or fewer employees (up from 15 in Round 1)
• Annual gross revenue of up to $3 million (up from $1.5 million)
• Must have been in business since August 1, 2019 (down from 3 years)
• Must have specific costs related to COVID-19 that have not been covered or reimbursed through any other grant funding or program (Round 1 prohibited applicants that had received any federal assistance)

Officials said more than 400 businesses applied for grants during the first round, and funds are still being distributed to approved recipients. Businesses that sought grants in the first round, but did not qualify, do not need to reapply. The county will automatically re-consider their applications in Round 2.
