Preview New I-90, SR 18 Interchange In April: WSDOT

Everyone's favorite I-90 interchange is getting a makeover. See WSDOT's plans.

ISSAQUAH, WA — There's nothing better than trying to get from I-90 to SR 18 (or the reverse) on a Friday at around 5 p.m., right?

Of course not. That's why WSDOT is planning a $150 million overhaul of the interchange.

WSDOT will hold two meetings in April where commuters can see the plans and give feedback. WSDOT is considering a direct-diamond interchange (DDI) at the intersection. It's a relatively new type of intersection that eliminates traffic light cycles, reducing wait times.

Here's a demonstration of a DDI that's been installed in Lacey — the first one in Washington:

WSDOT is also considering widening the area around the interchange, and building a new weigh station. The two open houses are on April 17 and 18:
