Protest At Reichert Issaquah Office Friday Morning

ISSAQUAH, WA - Protesters from the local Indivisible group will rally and protest in front of U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert's Issaquah office on Friday morning. The protest is the latest in a series of actions meant to draw attention to Reichert's decision not to hold a town hall meeting in his district. In his defense, Reichert says that he prefers to meet with constituents one-on-one or in small groups.

Last week, several Indivisible groups in the 8th Congressioanl District held an "empty chair" town hall meeting in Covington for Reichert. The group estimates that about 300 showed up, but Reichert did not. He has met with members from the indivisible group in private, however.

Friday's protest will also touch on other issues, including President Donald Trump's tax returns, tax reform, and the investigation into Russia's involvement in the 2016 election.

Reichert spokeswoman Breanna Deutsch said the protesters have every right to demonstrate in public, as long as it's safe. Patch.com asked if Reichert is planning any public events in the coming months - town halls or anything else - and this is what Deutsch said in response:

"People have every right to protest in public areas as long as no one’s safety is put at risk. The Congressman has been meeting with constituents daily, including the Indivisible groups," she said. "Over this two week period he has nearly 50 meetings and events scheduled and will meet with well over 200 people from the Eighth Congressional District. He believes this approach is the best way to maintain open communication with his constituents and have productive conversations."

The Friday rally begins at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Lake Sammamish Parkway and Southeast 56th Street, and will then head up the street to Reichert's office for the protest.
