Red Flag Warning For Cascades As Fire Danger Rises
This is the first red flag warning for the western slopes of the Cascades so far this summer. Some affected areas include US 2 and I-90.
ISSAQUAH, WA — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for a swath of the western slopes of the Cascades from U.S. 2 in King County south to Mount St. Helens as hot, dry weather moves into the region.
A red flag warning means "critical fire weather conditions" are imminent, according to the NWS. It also means that any fires that start can spread quickly.
Temperatures will head into the upper 80s in the Puget Sound area on Wednesday, but the air will be extremely dry, with humidity levels between 16 and 22 percent. Temperatures will be cooler close to Puget Sound, but valleys in the Cascades could see temperatures in the 90s. The warm weather will mostly fade after Wednesday with temperatures dropping back into the high 70s.
