Reichert In Consideration For FBI Director Job: Reports

ISSAQUAH, WA - From King County Sheriff to congressman to FBI director? U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert is being talked about as a possible replacement for recently-fired FBI director James Comey, according to reports. Reichert's name is one of many being circulated in Washington, DC, to test reaction, according to Politico.

Reichert has been a congressman for 13 years, but before that served as the King County Sheriff. He famously began his law enforcement career as one of the first investigators on the Green River Killer case. Reichert left as an investigator directly involved in the case, but returned in 2001 after Gary Ridgway was arrested. He later interrogated Ridgway about his killing spree in a secluded site at the King County Airport, according to Ann Rule's book on the Green River Killer, "Green River, Running Red."

Other names being floated for the FBI director job, according to Politico, include former Michigan congressman Mike Rogers, Chris Christie, and Kelly Ayotte.

President Donald Trump abruptly fired Comey on Tuesday. Trump has drawn criticism for firing Comey because the former director had recently asked for more resources to investigate the Trump campaign's involvement - if any - with Russia.
