Sammamish Cancels Large Events Into The Summer
City officials have formally canceled four annual events through July 4, citing uncertainty over the future of the coronavirus pandemic.
SAMMAMISH, WA — The city of Sammamish has preemptively canceled large, in-person events through July 4, citing coronavirus precautions and recent cuts to the city budget.
According to a news release shared Tuesday, the following events are on hold for 2021:
- Feb. 13: Sammamish Lunar New Year Celebration
- April 25: Sammamish Earth Day
- May 16: Rig-A-Palooza
- July 4: Fourth on the Plateau
The Sammamish Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department said the four annual celebrations would be replaced by virtual shows, interactive programs and drive-thru events yet to be announced. Details will be shared on the city's website as available.

Gov. Jay Inslee recently announced plans for a new phased reopening plan, which will allow some regions to resume more activities after a two-week decline in coronavirus transmission, positivity rates and hospitalization figures. The new Healthy Washington mandate could restore some business and recreation under certain restrictions, including indoor dining and fitness activities, in some areas beginning Monday, Jan. 11.
