Sammamish Considers Changing Park Rules, Seeks Public Input

SAMMAMISH, WA — Sammamish leaders are working to overhaul the city's rules for public parks, including modernizing existing rules, adding new laws and removing outdated language. The process began in June 2019 and is nearing its final phases. Before the City Council takes up the issue, the public has a chance to weigh in through March 7.

The city's stated goal for updating park regulations is "to encourage positive behavior in parks and trails, keep public places safe and welcoming, and maintain the high quality of maintenance and cleanliness for all park properties," officials wrote.

Since 2019, city staff from several departments have researched similar changes in other cities and also sought input from the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Residents are now invited to provide ideas or areas of concern, particularly among three specific areas of interest:

• Are there safety issues that occur in City parks that staff need to be aware of?
• Are there certain activities conducted by other members of the public that disrupt your enjoyment when visiting a City playground, sports field, beach, dog park, trail, etc.?
• Are there certain rules that interfere with your enjoyment when visiting a City park?

Survey responses are limited to one submission per e-mail account and must be submitted no later than Sunday, March 7.
