Sammamish Council Votes Against Injection Sites

SAMMAMISH, WA - The City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night to reject supervised injection sites, according to KOMO News. Sammamish joins Bellevue, Auburn, Renton and Federal Way in opposing injection sites. Kent enacted a six-month moratorium.

In January, King County and Seattle leaders approved a task force's recommendations to deal with the growing opioid addiction problem. One controversial suggestion was a pilot program for supervised injection sites, which would greatly decrease the risk of overdosing.

A University of Washington study found that 332 people died of drug overdoses in King County in 2016. The majority of these were opioid-related deaths.
